Sindh Schools Saturday Holiday Restored: Weekend Off Announced for All Public and Private Schools

The Sindh government has officially announced that all public and private schools across the province will observe Saturday and Sunday as weekly holidays, reversing the earlier decision to continue six-day classes in government schools.

The decision was taken on the initiative of the province government to control expenditure and make optimal use of available resources and was taken by the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

The new policy has determined that the number of teaching days would be reduced by one to be compensated for by extending the hours from Monday to Friday. This change is expected to facilitate the continuation of the academic year and the continuity of the learning process, according to the government.

The new decision has come into effect for all government and private educational institutions in Sindh, so that all schools in the province now have a uniform weekly timetable.

Earlier, Sindh Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah had announced that all government schools will continue academic routine six days a week. The School Education Department issued a notification stating that the government schools will follow the teaching schedule for six days from August 1, 2026.

That policy has been changed, though, in the province, where the Saturday holiday is still in effect for all schools, with extended classroom hours during the Monday – Friday schedule.

The ruling will allow students, teachers and school administrators to enjoy a two-day weekend, but won’t compromise the quality of education or learning outcomes by extending the teaching day.
