Street crimes in Karachi are a distressing reality that almost everyone has either experienced or knows of through stories. Actor Shahroz Sabzwari is among those who have fallen victim to such crimes. During an Eid special, the Babylicious star shared about his unfortunate encounters with robbery which happened to him twice. One of these incidents was particularly terrifying as the robbers also held him captive for several hours after mugging him.
Shahroz recently appeared on the Eid special hosted by Rabia Anum along with his wife, and his parents. During the show, the host brought up the topic of inflation and the increase in street crimes in the city. Rabia asked Shahroz if he had ever been a victim of mobile snatching.
In response to the host’s question, Shahroz shares a harrowing experience from 2010. He was held hostage for several hours by the notorious “Corolla gang”. Fortunately, they did not recognize him as an actor and released him after taking away valuable items and cash. This story came as a surprise to his wife, who had not heard it before. Shahroz went on to reveal that he was robbed twice, once at gunpoint where his phone was taken from him on Shahrah-e-Faisal. The other robbery happened in the aforementioned incident in 2010 where he was took along with his phone.
Describing the incident, he recounted that he was returning home late at night. He was returning after attending the wedding of his co-star Komal Aziz Khan when his car intercepted. He recalled that there was a notorious gang of white Corolla cars operating at the time. Initially, he fear that he is kidnapped, but it turn out to a case of temporary abduction. The assailants demanded a few items and proceeded to take him to various ATMs around the city, constantly changing locations. At the time, he had two guards with him, but they were overpower and his father’s expensive gift, a watch, was also taken.
Safina, the mother of the son who had a brush with a thief, added that material possessions should not prioritize in such situations. She emphasized that what truly matters is the preservation of life, and expressed her relief that her son returned home unharmed. Recounting the ordeal, Safina revealed that she had been trying to reach her son on the phone, but it was the thief who answered, leaving her deeply disturbed.
“Being robbed is one thing, but when they take you along, it’s a whole different level of stress,” Shahroz stated, reflecting on the few days when he was extremely anxious.
Shahroz and Sadaf tied the knot in 2020 and are parents to their daughter Syeda Zahra Sabzwari. Additionally, the actor has another daughter named Nooreh with his ex-wife Syra Yousuf.
