Muharram Moon Not Sighted: Islamic New Year To Begin On July 20

In a significant announcement made today, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee declared that the moon of Muharram ul Haram has not been sighted, officially marking the beginning of the new Islamic year, 1445 AH, on July 20. The committee’s meeting, held in Quetta and chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, brought together distinguished officials, including Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz, to assess the sighting possibilities.

Despite earnest efforts, the committee reported that the crescent remained invisible in various regions of Balochistan, including Quetta, due to unfavorable weather conditions. The presence of clouds hindered moon visibility, leading to the decision that Muharram will commence on July 20.

The announcement holds significant implications for Muslims worldwide, as it establishes the start of Muharram ul Haram and sets the course for religious observations and commemorative events. With the official commencement of the new Islamic year, individuals and communities can plan their fasting, prayers, and other religious practices in accordance with the Islamic calendar.

While the absence of moon sighting may bring a sense of disappointment, Muslims will embrace the sacred month of Muharram with dedication and reverence, starting from July 20. This month holds great significance as believers reflect on the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, seeking to cultivate a spirit of unity, introspection, and compassion.

As the Islamic new year, 1445 AH, commences without sighting the Muharram crescent, the Muslim community worldwide reminded of the enduring strength and resilience that characterizes their faith. They gather in remembrance, seeking solace, and drawing inspiration from the sacrifices made by Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions.
