Muharram Moon Sighting Today: Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Gathers in Quetta

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to convene today in a significant gathering aimed at observing the crescent of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar. Led by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the committee’s chairman, this event holds great importance for Muslims worldwide.

Concurrently, the zonal and district moon sighting committees will conduct their respective meetings at their headquarters. By convening together, these committees ensure a comprehensive and coordinated effort to sight the new moon across the country.

According to the expert analysis of astronomical parameters by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the chances of sighting the Muharram moon on Tuesday, July 18, which marks the commencement of the new Islamic year, 1445 AH, are relatively slim. The expected time for the appearance of the new moon is 11:32 pm on Monday, July 17, with the subsequent sighting on the following day.

In a recent notification issued by the PMD, it was mentioned that there exists a slight possibility of sighting the new moon of Muharram, 1445 AH, in the evening of July 18, 2023, corresponding to the 29th of Zilhaj, 1444 AH.

Furthermore, based on climate records, most parts of the country are predicted to experience partly cloudy or cloudy weather during this significant celestial event.
