The official moon sighting committee of Malaysia, the Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM), is set to convene a meeting today to sight the new crescent moon for the month of Ramadan. The sighting will determine the beginning of the fasting month for Muslims in Malaysia.
The committee, which comprises of Islamic scholars and government officials, will gather at several locations across the country to observe the new moon. Once the moon is sighted, JAKIM will make an official announcement to confirm the start of Ramadan.

Ramadan Moon Sighting in Indonesia and Australia,
In Indonesia and Australia, similar moon sighting committees will also meet today to sight the new moon. The Indonesian government has formed the Lembaga Falak Indonesia (LFI), while the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) is responsible for determining the start of Ramadan in Australia.
