The Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced that the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene on April 20 to observe the sighting of the crescent moon for Eid ul Fitr. This was confirmed on Tuesday by the Ministry, which oversees religious affairs in the country.
The sighting of the moon marks the end of the month of Ramadan and the beginning of the Islamic holiday of Eid ul Fitr. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which comprises religious scholars and experts, will gather to assess the crescent’s visibility and make an official announcement regarding the start of Eid ul Fitr.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs announced that a meeting will held at their office in Islamabad, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the Chairman of the Ruet-e-Halal Committee.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, it has announced that the zonal committees will be holding their meetings at designated locations across the country. The statement also mentioned that the main meeting, presided over by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, will held at the ministry’s office in Islamabad.
Ramadan 2023 began on March 23, following a period of confusion during the moonsighting meeting. The start date of Ramadan had been a topic of debate and disagreement among the religious community, leading to some uncertainty and tension in the lead-up to the holy month. However, once the moonsighting confirmed, Ramadan officially began across the country, and Muslims began observing the fast.
