The Health Department of Sindh made an appeal to recovered Coronavirus patients for the donation of plasma.
The doctors said that the previous stock that people donated voluntarily has now depleted; thats why we make a new call for donation. They further remarked that the plasma that they collect from the recovered COVID-19 patient has very fruitful results and was used for passive immunization of immunocompromised patients.
While appealing for plasma donation, Dr. Azra Pechuho, Sindh Health Minister, explains that these plasma donations are for the national cause and will help to treat the coronavirus in all our country. She added that passive immunization could prevent patients from the need for a ventilator. The collection process of donation is fulfilled with strict adherence to SOPs under the supervision of blood transfusion authority.
Sindh Health Minister informs that those who want to share their part in plasma donation can contact to National Institute of Blood Disease and Bone Marrow Transplantation in Karachi, the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences in Jamshoro and the Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences in Nawabshah.
And they can also call at helpline set up by the National Institute of Blood Diseases at 0333 2976390 for plasma donations.
As per Dr.Shamsi, therapy of plasma was used to cure patients of many diseases like influenza, Ebola, and SARS in the past. And he also confirmed that 1500 hospitals of 80 countries also used this technique to treat COVID-19 patients.
