Asad Umar, Planning and development minister shows concern, 18 million people might lose their jobs in Pakistan amid coronavirus lockdown.
Pakistan Institute of Development economics researches after which during the conference Asad Umer shared his concern over jobs in Pakistan. He mentions there is a chance that 20 to 70 million people in Pakistan may befall below the poverty line, and 18 million maybe lose their job because of lockdown. The restriction was imposed to stop the spread of the virus, but it may cause substantial economic consequences.
He clarifies in the conference that a standard of 24 people was dying because of COVID-19 daily for the last six days in Pakistan. And if the situation remains like that, then there would be 720 deaths every month. He feared that there would be a chance that this lockdown wipeout over one million small businesses.
Planning and Development Minister added that this lockdown is hitting the government very severely. Because we already had faced a loss of Rs 118 Billion in April and expected higher losses at the hands of the virus. However, Pakistan suffered lesser causalities as compared to the United States and the United Kingdom.
Asad claimed that the experts mention the many reasons for this significant difference in losses. This contains the difference in weather and the level of immunization through the BCG vaccine, among others.
