The Balochistan police on Thursday arrested Baloch Muttahida Mahaz (BMM) president Mir Yousuf Masti Khan for making an anti-state speech during the Gwadar sit-in.
Police has registered cases against the BMM president under sections 121, 123-A, 124-A, 153, 109 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Masti Khan was arrested from a hotel. He was the produced in court. The court remanded him in custody for one day.
According to sources, the police also registered cases against Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman and attempted to arrest him but could not because of the presence of thousands of people.
A heavy contingent of police and other law-enforcement agencies was present but took no action against the protesters.
The residents of Gwadar have been staging a sit-in for the past 22 days in support of their demands.
Earlier, the Balochistan government had also agreed to fulfill the demands of the protesters.
However, anti-state speeches made during the sit-in reversed the agreement.
