PM Shehbaz Sharif Orders Fast Approval for Apna Ghar Scheme Applications, Announces Major Pakistan Railways Reforms
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities and banks to accelerate the approval process for eligible applications under the Apna Ghar Scheme Pakistan, aiming to make housing finance more accessible for citizens across the country.
The Prime Minister, who presided over a high-level review meeting to evaluate the Prime Minister’s Apna ghar housing initiative, highlighted that citizens need to given “maximum facilitation” to serve more people with affordable housing. He urged banks to process applications that are presented correctly without delay to make the dream of owning a home a reality for low and middle income families, the government’s focus.
At the meeting, officials presented the Prime Minister with updates on the Apna Ghar Scheme 2026, such as the number of applications received, loans sanctioned, and challenges faced in their implementation. The Prime Minister pleased with the rising level of public involvement, adding that the higher intake of applications has been testament to high public trust in the Government’s housing programmes.
He said that so many citizens could soon become homeowners through the Apna Ghar housing programme. The program seen as a vital component of the government’s overall efforts to encourage affordable housing initiatives in Pakistan and enhance urban development.
In another notable development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also gave assent to a strategic roadmap for the reforms of Pakistan Railways, with a view to modernising the nation’s railway system. The plan centered on restructuring operations and enhancing efficiency via public-private partnership (PPP) investment in Pakistan Railways.
The Prime Minister highlighted the need to promote the involvement of the private sector in upgrading railway infrastructure, enhancing services and strengthening financial sustainability. The changes expected to make a significant impact in improving the efficiency and profitability of the Pakistan Railways.
The Prime Minister also met a few political leaders, such as former federal minister Ghous Ahmed Bilour, and some members of the National Assembly to discuss development and public welfare issues.
