In a recent operation at Multan Airport, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) apprehended an individual attempting to enter Saudi Arabia under the pretense of Umrah, a religious pilgrimage. The accused had planned to use his Umrah visa for begging purposes.
Following a tip-off, the FIA took action, resulting in the arrest of a travel agent named Muhammad Ali, who was facilitating the accused’s deceptive journey to Saudi Arabia for begging.
This is not an isolated case, as Muhammad Ali had previously sent numerous individuals to Saudi Arabia for similar purposes, exploiting the Umrah visa system.
In a concerning revelation, earlier in a similar incident the arrested beggars have confessed to having visited Iran and Iraq for begging, with the assistance of Pakistani travel agents.
These agents would strategically drop them in densely populated areas of Saudi Arabia, simplifying their money collection efforts through begging. Shockingly, half of their earnings were handed over to these agents. Such scams are a cause for serious concern and demand vigilance in monitoring visa and travel arrangements.
