The much-anticipated Shahrah-e-Bhutto project in Karachi is set to be officially inaugurated today by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, marking a major milestone in the city’s infrastructure development.
According to the spokesperson of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), after the formal inauguration, the 39-kilometer-long highway will be opened for public traffic, providing a new and improved route for commuters in Karachi.
Key Features of Shahrah-e-Bhutto Project
The representative assured that Shahrah-e-Bhutto was an up-to-date expressway for transporting traffic from Karachi. The main features of the project are:
- Total length of approximately 39 kilometers
- Construction of 6 major interchanges
- Starting point from Qayyumabad area of Karachi
- Project cost estimated at around 56 billion rupees
- Completion within the scheduled timeframe
The highway is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve traffic flow across major parts of the city.
PPP Government’s Infrastructure Push in Karachi
The project is a part of the continuous development efforts of the government of the province under the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party. Karachi’s mayor Murtaza Wahab said that the city was working round the clock to solve long pending problems of traffic and urban congestion in the city.
The officials hope to make Shahrah-e-Bhutto into a strategic alternative route that will ease the traffic congestion on the city’s overcrowded roads and enhance connectivity between key industrial and residential areas.
Impact on Karachi’s Traffic System
Urban planners and authorities expect the new highway to:
