BISP Major Update: Unmarried Women Above 35 Now Eligible for Financial Support

Islamabad: In a major relief for vulnerable women across Pakistan, the government has decided to include unmarried women above the age of 35 in the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), expanding the scope of the country’s largest social welfare initiative.

The announcement made in the meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) subcommittee, which member Bilal Mandokhail pointed out that a large number of deserving unmarried females had earlier omitted from the BISP registration and financial assistance system.

In response to the concerns, BISP officials share information with the committee that unmarried women will now included in the Benazir Income Support Programme, provided they meet the eligibility criteria of the programme.

Major Relief for Deserving Women

The move welcomed as an important step toward strengthening Pakistan’s social protection network. There are thousands of unmarried women around the country who find that they are unable to get a job, sustain a low income, or receive financial support from family.
