In a commendable move towards fiscal responsibility and transparency, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa of Pakistan has voluntarily returned two opulent official vehicles assigned for his use. The gesture comes after the Chief Justice discovered that the Supreme Court had purchased a luxury car for him in September 2020, valued at a staggering Rs 6 crore 10 lakh.
The Supreme Court Registrar formally informed the Cabinet Secretary and Chief Secretary of Punjab about Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s decision to give up the extravagant vehicles. The letter highlights that regulations allocate two vehicles to the Chief Justice and each judge, but Chief Justice Isa has chosen not to use these high-end vehicles.
The vehicles, including a new bulletproof luxury car from the Punjab government, are parked at the Supreme Court Rest House in GOR Lahore, as per the Registrar’s letter. The Chief Justice believes using expensive, imported vehicles by constitutional and public officials burdens the national exchequer unnecessarily.
Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa has ordered the sale of two vehicles. The funds will support public transport initiatives, showcasing responsible use of public funds and setting a precedent for resource allocation in the public’s best interest.
