Complete Shutdown in Karachi, Major Commercial Centers and Transport Closed on Jamaat-e-Islami’s Call

Major markets and transport routes shut down across Karachi today. Jamaat-e-Islami called this strike to protest inflation, high taxes, and the petroleum levy.

Commercial activity stopped across the city as approximately 90% of businesses suspended operations.

Central commercial hubs including Saddar, Clifton, Regal, Kharadar, Jodia Bazaar and Bolton Market remained closed.

Similarly, business centers shut down in Liaquatabad, Korangi, Malir, Hyderi, and North Karachi, alongside Korangi Crossing, Maskan Chowrangi, and Safoora Chowrangi.

Transportation Issues

Public transport on major roads dropped significantly. It caused severe commuting difficulties for citizens.

Additionally, unknown people blocked roads near Korangi Crossing and set two motorcycles on fire. Police rushed to the scene immediately.

Legal Community Support

The Karachi Bar Association supported the strike. Lawyers held a peaceful march from the Sindh High Court to the Karachi Press Club.

The Bar requested judicial leniency for lawyers and clients who could not attend court proceedings.

Warnings From the Jamaat-e-Islami Leadership

JI Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman called the nationwide strike historic. He demanded that the government end the petroleum levy, unfair taxes, and anti-people independent power producer (IPP) pacts.

Naeem-ur-Rehman warned that protests will continue if the demands were not fulfilled. He also mentioned future options like a long march in Islamabad and nationwide sit-ins, which are already active across provincial capitals.
