Covid: NIH Warns Of Fifth Coronavirus Wave In Feb 2022

Health officials on Wednesday warned that the country might face the fifth wave of the prevailing coronavirus next year in February.

The daily detection of cases per day is somewhere around 3,000-4,000. Health experts have predicted that the transmission of cases might keep increasing.

Major cities including Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore are at the highest risk.

 �Transmission of Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 has started in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad and we fear a rise in Covid-19 cases all over the country in the coming two weeks,� an NIH official said.

He added that Pakistan may experience the fifth wave of Covid in the middle of February 2022 with the number of daily cases rising to 3,000 to 4,000.

Earlier on December 8, the NIH said 75 Omicron variant cases had been confirmed. All the patients are currently undergoing treatment.

33 cases have been reported in Karachi, 17 in Islamabad, and 13 in Lahore so far.
