Display and Brandishing of Weapons Banned in Sindh for 90 Days

In a decisive move to ensure public safety, the Government of Sindh has invoked its authority under Section 144 (6) of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cz.P.C.), imposing a strict ban on the display and brandishing of weapons across the entire province of Sindh for a duration of three months, equivalent to 90 days. This measure goes into immediate effect and is aimed at safeguarding the well-being of the public.

It is important to note that this ban does not apply to police personnel and individuals serving in law enforcement agencies during their designated duty hours. This exception is vital to maintain the essential security measures in place for the safety of the community.

Furthermore, registered Private Security Companies’ guards are permitted to carry weapons while on duty at their respective locations. However, it is crucial to highlight that the display and brandishing of weapons by these guards is strictly prohibited during transportation in open vehicles, commonly referred to as “Dalla Vehicles.” In such cases, all weapons must be securely kept inside the vehicle, ensuring a responsible and safe approach.

To enforce this ban effectively, the authorities have empowered the Station House Officers (SHOs) of the relevant police stations with the authority to file written complaints under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). These complaints will be lodged against individuals found in violation of Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.P.C.), thus ensuring accountability for any transgressions.
