ECP Removes Form 47 Amidst Tampering Allegations

In response to mounting allegations of election result tampering, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken a significant step by removing the Form 47 section from its website. The “Form-47 Provisional Results Dashboard” now displays a “404 error,” indicating that the webpage is currently unavailable.

The move comes amidst complaints lodged against the electoral watchdog, particularly regarding perceived delays in declaring election results. Omar Ayub, the secretary general of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), raised concerns earlier in the day, claiming that returning officers (ROs) had falsified Form 47 for 18 National Assembly seats in Karachi, where PTI-backed independent candidates were purportedly declared winners.

In a message on X, Ayub highlighted the alleged manipulation in the reporting of results, intensifying the controversy surrounding the electoral process.

It is noteworthy that independent candidates, as per the Constitution, have the option to join any political parliamentary party within three days after the ECP’s notification. This decision carries implications for the allocation of more reserve seats for women and non-Muslims in the National Assembly based on the new numerical strength of the political party.

However, if independent candidates opt not to align with any political parliamentary party within the stipulated three-day period after the ECP’s notification, they will retain their independent status.

The removal of Form 47 from the ECP website raises questions about transparency in the electoral process, as stakeholders and the public await further developments and clarification from the electoral authorities. The situation underscores the importance of addressing allegations promptly to uphold the integrity of the electoral system.
