In an unprecedented move, the Pakistani government is set to extend the traditional Eid al-Fitr holiday to a six-day break. This decision aims to amplify the festive spirit of Eid, which is expected to fall on April 10th, subject to the sighting of the moon.
The proposed holiday period will commence from April 9th, 2024, and extend until Friday, April 12th. This extension, coupled with the regular weekend break observed by several government and private institutions, could potentially result in a continuous six-day holiday.
However, the final decision hinges on the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s moon sighting announcement. If the committee’s findings align with the government’s proposed dates, Pakistanis could be looking forward to an extended period of rest and celebration.
