Electric Buses to Return on Karachi Roads with New Charging System

Karachi’s electric buses, which suspended due to a faulty charging system, are coming back soon, as per the official sources. The government has imported a new charging system from China, which will enable 15 electric buses to resume operations on two city routes from Monday.

The electric buses launched in February this year as part of the Sindh government’s initiative to provide eco-friendly and affordable public transport to the citizens. However, within a few weeks, the battery charger started malfunctioning, forcing the buses to stop running on two routes about two months ago.

On Sunday, Sindh Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the new charging system has arrived and the buses will be back on the roads from tomorrow. He said that the new system will ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations of the electric buses.

He also said that an additional fleet of buses will arrive in Karachi on July 11, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to optimize public transport. He said that the new buses will replace the older ones and improve the urban travel facilities. He said that the Sindh government committed to expanding the number of buses as per the instructions of PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah.
