Recent developments in Pakistan’s electricity sector have led to a significant increase in electricity prices, impacting household consumers across the nation. According to a detailed report, these price hikes expected to result in higher monthly bills for all electricity consumers.
Impact on Consumers:
The impact of the electricity price increase varies based on the amount of electricity consumed. Here’s a breakdown of how it will affect different consumer groups:
- 100 Units Usage: Consumers using 100 units of electricity can expect an additional burden of 328.14 PKR per month.
- 200 Units Usage: Those consuming 200 units will see their monthly bills rise by 656.28 PKR.
- 300 Units Usage: For users consuming 300 units, an extra charge of 684.42 PKR per month will applied.
- 400 Units Usage: Customers using 400 units will have to pay an additional 912 PKR.
- 500 Units Usage: Those using 500 units will face an extra cost of 1140 PKR on their monthly bills.
- 600 Units Usage: Consumers utilizing 600 units of electricity will required to pay an additional 1368 PKR per month.
- 700 Units Usage: For the highest category, with 700 units, an extra charge of 1596 PKR will added to their monthly expenses.
Additional Charges:
In addition to the increased electricity rates, all consumers will need to pay an extra 3.28 PKR per unit for a duration of six months. This price adjustment scheduled to take effect from October 1st.
Capital Payments and System Usage Charges:
Consumers will also be obligated to contribute to capital payments and system usage charges. A total of 114 billion PKR will be collected from consumers as capital payments, while 14 billion PKR will be collected for utilizing the electricity distribution system.
