Electricity Price Hike: NEPRA Approves 5.62 Rs per Unit

Electricity Price Hike – In a recent development, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has given initial approval for a significant Electricity price hike. The decision, made during a hearing chaired by Waseem Mukhtar at the Nepra head office, will see a surge of 5.62 rupees per unit in electricity rates.

This move comes on the heels of a monthly fuel adjustment hearing for December, during which Nepra granted the initial green light for the proposed hike. The new pricing structure is expected to impose an additional burden of 49 billion rupees on electricity consumers.

While the National Electric Regulatory Authority has indicated that a detailed decision will follow after a thorough review of the figures, the Consumer Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) officials clarified during the hearing that the increase encompasses not only the rise in Fuel Cost Component (FCC) charges but also includes funds for other associated expenses.

The approval of this electricity price hike raises concerns among consumers as they brace themselves for the financial implications of the added burden on their electricity bills. Stay tuned for further updates on this development.
