Electricity Prices in Pakistan to Increase Today by NEPRA

Sources indicate that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is likely to issue a formal notification regarding the hike in electricity prices today. The current nationwide basic tariff for electricity stands at Rs. 24.82.

During the previous fiscal year, there was a noteworthy increase of Rs. 7.91 in the basic electricity tariff. The tariff had risen from Rs. 16.91 to Rs. 24.82 in stages over the course of the year.

To manage the increase effectively, the adjustment in the basic tariff was carried out in three phases throughout the previous fiscal year.

Presently, the average cost of electricity per unit in the country amounts to approximately Rs. 45, inclusive of the basic tariff.

Following the proposed increase in the basic tariff, the average cost of electricity per unit is expected to surpass Rs. 50.
