Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has warned of a gas crisis in the country after a few years.

Speaking to the media after the weekly cabinet meeting, Chaudhry said people who are used to consuming cheap gas will have to change their habits.

People accustomed to using cheap gas need to change their habits, he said, adding that gas will not be available in the country in a few years.

Gas reserves were decreasing by 9 per cent each year and that is why there will be no gas available for people, the information minister said.

Chaudhry urged people to pray that the price of oil comes down globally so that people in the country did not have to bear the burden.

He also assured that the issues related to Gwadar will be sorted out soon.

Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar and Zubaida Jalal will visit Gwadar and present the report to the premier, the information minister concluded.

Analysis

There has always been a shortage of gas in the country but only until a few years ago, it has started impacting people belonging to every kind of class.

Be it the poor, medium, rich or elite class. Everyone had to bear the brunt of the gas crisis.

Even the upscale neighborhoods of Karachi were not able to escape from it especially during the winter season.

Unfortunately nor did the previous PPP and PML-N government neither has the PTI government so far come up with a strategy to deal with the looming crisis.
