Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan Marks 71st Birthday in Jail

As Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former prime minister, celebrates his 71st birthday today, he finds himself behind bars in Adiala jail. Khan’s incarceration stems from his involvement in a cipher case, a situation that has garnered significant attention and support from his party.

PTI has decided to organize a peaceful gathering outside Adiala jail, where supporters will gather to offer prayers for Khan’s safety and well-being. They have also urged people to convene at their nearby mosques at 5 pm and collectively pray for Imran Khan.

Imran Khan’s legal troubles began on August 5 when he was arrested following a court’s decision in the Toshakhana case, resulting in a three-year jail sentence. Although the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended his sentence on August 30, he remained in custody as a special court placed him under the custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on judicial remand in connection with the cipher case.

Despite the challenging circumstances, social media is abuzz with reactions and well-wishes for the former premier on his 71st birthday.

Imran Khan, born to Ikramullah Khan Niazi and Shaukat Khanam, hails from the Niazi tribe of Pashtuns. He pursued his primary education in Lahore and later went to the UK for higher education, ultimately graduating from Oxford University. His journey then took a remarkable turn when he joined Pakistan’s national cricket team in 1971 at the tender age of 18.

Khan’s leadership abilities shone on the cricket field, and he went on to captain the Pakistan cricket team from 1982 to 1992, leading them to a historic victory in the 1992 World Cup. In 1994, he made the transition to active politics, aligning himself with Pasban, a splinter group of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).

In a tribute to his mother, Khan laid the foundation stone of Shaukat Khanum Hospital for cancer treatment in 1994, a significant humanitarian effort that stands as a testament to his commitment to public welfare.

As Imran Khan’s supporters gather to mark his birthday outside Adiala jail, the nation watches with keen interest, wondering how this chapter of his life will unfold.”
