Free Solar Kits Distribution Begins in Sindh as Government Targets 275,000 Low-Income Families

The Sindh government has officially launched the free solar kits distribution program, bringing major relief to thousands of low-income households across the province. Under the latest phase of the initiative, 275,000 deserving families will receive free solar systems to ensure access to affordable, reliable, and eco-friendly electricity.

Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the Rs. 18.2 billion free solar project implemented on the directives of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The project’s objective is to enhance energy access to poor households, especially in remote and less-served regions of Sindh.

The minister said the scheme will benefit 132,000 off-grid households and 143,000 on-grid households who will receive free solar systems. It is hoped the project will lower electricity bills and encourage more renewable energy use in the province.

The solar panel, battery, fan, and LED lights will distributed to each eligible family, providing them with 180 watts of solar power to help cover their basic electricity requirements.

More than 15,000 free solar kits have already distributed, and the Sindh government has targeted to distribute all the 275,000 solar kits by June 2027, Sharjeel Inam Memon said.

The Sindh free solar scheme is among the largest clean energy projects in the province, offering a long-term solution for low-income families to access sustainable and affordable electricity. The government is optimistic that the project will not only enhance the quality of life but also contribute to the country’s shift to renewable sources of energy.
