Government of Pakistan to Receive Bahria Town Funds

In a groundbreaking development, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, emphatically declared during Thursday’s proceedings that the Supreme Court unequivocally detached from the funds linked to the Bahria Town implementation case. Delving into the intricacies of the matter, the CJP asserted that the apex court could no longer retain the amount in its accounts. He stated, “If no one lays claim on the amount, then the cash will transferred to the Government of Pakistan. The court has nothing to do with this amount.”

The revelation unfolded as a 10-member survey team, led by Commissioner Karachi, submitted a comprehensive report to the Supreme Court on Thursday. This report, a collaborative effort involving SUPARCO, Survey of Pakistan, and the Forest Department, unveiled shocking disparities in the case involving the collection of Rs460 billion from Bahria Town, Karachi, as per the apex court’s directive.

Contrary to the terms outlined in the agreement following the apex court’s order, which permitted Bahria Town to occupy 16,896 acres of land, the report disclosed that the housing giant was currently in possession of 19,931 acres of land—3,031 acres beyond the agreed-upon limit.

The report further brought to light that Bahria Town held 813 acres in the Malir district of Karachi and an additional 2,222 acres in Jamshoro. Alarmingly, it revealed that the housing society had encroached upon land earmarked for the forest. This prompted the Supreme Court, in its previous hearing, to mandate a thorough survey of the land under Bahria Town’s possession in Karachi.

The detailed report underscored that Bahria Town Karachi had overstepped the agreed-upon land limit by 3,031 acres. This revelation emphasized a breach in the contractual agreement, shedding light on the housing society’s possession of land exceeding the stipulated boundaries.

This landmark development not only raises questions about adherence to legal agreements but also underscores the pivotal role of the judiciary in ensuring accountability and justice. Chief Justice Isa’s resolute stance on the court’s financial detachment adds a layer of transparency to the ongoing legal saga, marking a significant chapter in the Bahria Town case.
