In a landmark decision, the Punjab government has announced the issuance of ‘Himat Card’ and ‘Nigehban Card’ for special citizens under the Bait-ul-Mal initiative. This decision was made in a high-profile meeting chaired by Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz.
The meeting focused on the digitization of the Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal Department, marking a significant step towards modernization. Maryam Nawaz emphasized the need for authentic data compilation of special citizens. The ‘Himat Card’ and ‘Nigehban Card’ are set to be issued to eligible special citizens, empowering them to work despite their disabilities.
The meeting also discussed the launch of a loan scheme for individuals and the provision of assistive devices such as wheelchairs to the disabled. A mandate was issued for the inclusion of ramps and special bathrooms in all new government buildings, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusivity.
Financial independence for special citizens was another key topic, with the decision to provide loans ranging from one to two hundred thousand rupees. The meeting also reviewed the activation of Skills Development Centers in Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad, and their potential establishment in other districts.
The meeting concluded with the approval of Violence Against Women Centers (VAWC) in every division to combat violence against women. The creation of a Women Protection Authority Task Force was also considered, marking a significant stride towards women’s safety.
