HSY Designs PIA’s New Cabin Crew Uniforms, Set to Debut on Oct 31

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has unveiled new cabin crew uniforms designed by Pakistani fashion designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, popularly known as HSY. The collection combines contemporary tailoring with Pakistani cultural elements and will debut on October 31.

PIA announced the “Runway to Runway” collection on October 22 as part of its efforts to refresh the airline’s image under its consortium-led new management. Spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez Khan said the designs aim to improve the onboard experience while prioritizing passenger comfort and crew confidence.

New PIA Uniforms Focus on Comfort and Heritage

According to PIA, the collection follows a “lifestyle first” approach. It uses breathable fabrics, structured tailoring and ergonomic designs to support crew movement and withstand long-haul operations.

The colors and details draw inspiration from Pakistani cultural craftsmanship. HSY said the project aimed to represent the country’s heritage and hospitality while helping crew members feel comfortable and confident.

“Designing for our national flag carrier is about capturing our collective pride and the genuine warmth of Pakistani hospitality,” he said in the airline’s statement.

HSY’s designs were selected after a showcase in Karachi, where 10 leading Pakistani fashion designers presented concepts to a jury of fashion and industry representatives. Designers included:

  1. Deepak & Fahad
  2. Deepak Perwani
  3. Faraz Manan
  4. Generation
  5. House of Amir Adnan (Amir Adnan)
  6. HSY (Hassan Sheheryar Yasin)
  7. Ismail Farid
  8. Maheen Khan
  9. Munib Nawaz
  10. Nomi Ansari

PIA’s Uniform Design Legacy

The new collection continues PIA’s long association with prominent fashion designers. French designer Pierre Cardin created the airline’s A-line tunic and hood in 1966. In the 1970s, Sir Hardy Amies, who served as Queen Elizabeth II’s royal couturier, contributed his tailoring expertise.

Pakistani designer Nomi Ansari later influenced PIA’s uniform identity for 12 years. HSY now joins that list as the airline introduces its latest designs.

The new uniforms will enter service on October 31, when crew members wear them aboard PIA’s inaugural Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flight from London to Islamabad. The launch forms part of the airline’s broader effort to modernize its onboard experience and present a refreshed identity to international passengers.
