In a recent development, the Sindh High Court (SHC) has mandated the removal of unauthorized vendors and rickshaw stands from various roads and commercial plots in Karachi. The directive was issued during a hearing in Korangi, presided over by the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi.
The court was petitioned against the proliferation of illegal vendors and rickshaw stands in several areas. The counsel informed the court about the widespread illegal activities and called for their immediate halt. Despite the court’s orders, the police and deputy commissioner conveyed their inability to dismantle the unauthorized vendors and rickshaw stands.
Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi expressed concern over the obstruction caused by these illegal vendors and rickshaw stands, emphasizing their removal to alleviate public inconvenience. The government’s counsel revealed that they are awaiting a written response from the SSP, while the deputy commissioner’s reply is still pending.
The court granted an extension for the submission of the deputy commissioner’s response. Following this, the court ordered the elimination of vendors and rickshaw stands on roads, service roads, and commercial plots. The authorities have been instructed to complete the operation and submit a report to the court by May 28th.
This move is expected to significantly improve the traffic situation in Karachi and provide relief to the public from the inconvenience caused by these illegal activities.
