Islamabad Hospitals Put on High Alert Ahead of September 27 PTI March

Federal health authorities have directed hospitals in Islamabad to prepare for a possible mass-casualty situation ahead of the September 27 PTI march. PIMS is also reportedly preparing for a possible surge in emergency cases.

The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Federal Government Polyclinic Hospital have been placed on high alert as several marches are expected in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Federal health authorities issued instructions to Islamabad hospitals ahead of several planned marches, including the PTI march scheduled for September 27. The instructions call for preparations for a possible “humanitarian crisis” and “mass casualty surge.”

Emergency Services to Remain Operational

According to hospital notifications, PIMS will remain on high alert until September 30 for a possible increase in patients.

The administration has directed relevant staff to:

• Remain available and respond to emergency calls.
• Keep ambulances and drivers ready around the clock.
• Maintain medical supplies, oxygen and other essential resources.
• Reserve 20 emergency beds, with 10 for male patients and 10 for female patients.
• Keep additional beds, stretchers and wheelchairs available.
• Reserve two rooms in the officers’ ward.
• Maintain at least 100 bags of blood in the blood bank.
• Keep intensive care, operating theatre, trauma, nursing, diagnostic, and pharmacy services operational.

Emergency and ambulance access routes must also remain clear.

Documents obtained by Drop Site News state that all scheduled elective surgeries were postponed indefinitely.

The preparations come ahead of the PTI’s planned September 27 march towards Islamabad. PTI has said the protest will seek the release of party founder Imran Khan.

The Islamabad High Court has also ruled that political parties and public office holders cannot block roads in the capital.
