Islamabad Police have been provided with modern net launchers ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) march planned for September 27.

The federal government provided the equipment to the capital police. Officials describe the devices as a non-lethal policing tool. They can fire a mesh net at a person and restrict their movement.

A video released with the announcement shows a police official demonstrating the device. The launcher fires a net toward a targeted person. The net can help officers restrain the person and reduce their ability to resist.

Net Launchers May Be Used During PTI March

The equipment may be used if PTI protesters reach Islamabad. Police officials have said the launchers can help deal with people who resist arrest or create law and order problems.

The move comes as authorities increase security measures ahead of the September 27 march. Islamabad has already imposed Section 144 for two months. The administration has also placed containers at key locations around the capital.

Punjab has also requested Rangers deployment in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali from September 22 to October 5. The request covers security arrangements linked to the expected protests.
