Jamaat e Islami Protest in Karachi Today Over Solar Net Metering in Pakistan

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan announces February 14 sit-in outside Sindh Assembly against net metering abolition and for Karachi rights. Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman slams federal solar policy betrayal, demands empowered local government, and plans post-Ramadan nationwide movement amid Karachi census and safety crises.

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan plans a major sit-in outside Sindh Assembly today, February 14, 2026. The protest targets Karachi’s rights, civic issues, and an empowered local government system. JI chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman also announced a nationwide movement after Ramadan against the federal government’s decision to abolish net metering under the new solar policy.

Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman addressed a press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq on Thursday. He called the abolition of net metering a betrayal of the public. He demands reversal of the policy that slashes benefits for solar users across Pakistan.

The JI leader vows to launch broader action post-Ramadan. He stated, “We will not allow the system of oppression and illegal occupation to continue any further.” He plans a no-confidence movement against the occupying mayor in Karachi.

Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman noted the city’s population stands at 35 million, yet official records show only 20 million. Over the past five years, around 100,000 buildings rose in the city. Of these, 85,000 remain illegal and pose serious risks as “time bombs.”

Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman blames corruption in the Pakistan Peoples Party-led administration and the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) for Gul Plaza tragedy.

Karachi lacks adequate fire safety. International standards require one fire station per 100,000 people. The city has only 28 stations, with just 21 partially functional. Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman urges all provincial governments to empower local bodies as per the Constitution. He stresses Karachi citizens deserve dignity and due rights.
