The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a rain alert for Karachi Airport in anticipation of upcoming rains, as predicted by the Meteorological Department. The CAA has outlined several measures to ensure safety and smooth operations during this period.
The alert includes monitoring the runway and surrounding areas for the next 24 hours. Small aircraft are to parked in safe locations, with their wings secured by weights. The CAA is also addressing concerns about insects and birds around the runway due to the rainfall.
To ensure safe flight operations, additional bird shooters have deployed, and the joints of tarmac areas reinforced with electricity cables to prevent mishaps. Clear drainage of water from airport runways through connected drains also being maintained.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rains with wind and thundershowers in various parts of the country starting this week. Strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are likely to affect upper parts of the country from today.
Weather expert Jawad Memon stated that a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is likely to affect Sindh, with potential downpours in Karachi between July 22-23 and throughout the week. The intensity of the rain will measured in the coming days.
The PMD has advised all concerned authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to avoid any untoward situations.
