PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz has found herself at the center of controversy after an unedited clip of her interview with anchorperson Mansoor Ali Khan went viral on social media. The leaked clip showed Maryam Nawaz asking Khan to cut out a question about a car purchased by her father from Toshakhana. Critics accused her of avoiding tough questions and criticized her for not being forthcoming in the interview.
However, Maryam Nawaz defended herself, stating that she did not have the required information and did not want to say anything that was factually incorrect. PML-N’s official Twitter account also defended her. It states that the clip was excluded because she did not have the information at the moment.
Anchorperson Mansoor Ali Khan also faced criticism for leaving out the clip from the original interview. He clarified that the leak was theft and a breach of data. He added that, ethically, he could not air that clip as consent is important.
The controversy has sparked a debate on media ethics and the responsibility of journalists. Khan released another video explaining his side of the story and discussing the importance of following the code of ethics. Meanwhile, PTI leaders accused the interview of being “fixed,”. Khan clarified that if it was fixed, he would have also taken out the part where Maryam Nawaz hesitated to answer a question about former army chief Gen (retired) Bajwa.
The incident has raised questions about the role of journalists and the importance of transparency in media. It remains to be seen how the controversy will affect Maryam Nawaz’s political career.
