Power utility denies altered peak hours schedule for Karachi consumers
K-Electric (KE), the sole power utility company serving Karachi, has categorically denied recent reports suggesting a change in the on-peak hours schedule for power consumers in the city. Responding to inquiries regarding these rumors, a spokesperson for KE clarified that there have been no modifications to the on-peak or off-peak timing.
In an official statement, the power utility asserted, “We would like to inform you that there is no change in the on-peak schedule. Please find below the peak and off-peak time schedule for your convenience: Peak Time: From April to October: 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM. From November to March: 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.”
The rumors of a change in the peak hour timing gained traction on social media platforms and various sections of the media. However, K-Electric dismissed these reports and reiterated that the Peak and Off-Peak timings within their service territory remain unchanged.
The specified schedule applies to customers with a three-phase meter on their premises and a sanctioned load of 5kW or more, while customers with a single-phase meter are not subject to Time of Use (ToU) regulations.
Peak hours represent the period of the day when electricity demand reaches its peak, during which consumers are charged a higher rate per kilowatt-hour consumed.
Speculations had surfaced claiming that the government had extended the duration of peak hours by two hours in order to fulfill conditions set forth by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
K-Electric’s denial of any changes to the peak hour timing schedule aims to dispel the rumors and reassure consumers that they can continue to rely on the existing schedule for their electricity consumption needs.
