Karachi: Electricity Unit Price to Surge by Rs 1.72

In a recent development, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has greenlit the Uniform Quarterly Tariff Adjustments for consumers of K-Electric, paving the way for a Rs1.72 per unit increase in electricity rates.

The decision entails the application of tariff rationalization guidelines previously issued to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). This adjustment will affect the consumption recorded in July, August, and September 2023, with the increased charges set to be reflected in the bills of K-Electric consumers during December 2023, January 2024, and February 2024, respectively.

According to sources, the tariff adjustment will see a rise of Rs1.25 per unit for the period from January to March 2023 and an additional Rs0.47 per unit from October to December 2023. This move is part of an effort to maintain uniformity in electricity tariffs nationwide.

In another key decision, the committee has approved an extension in the government’s guarantee ceiling of Rs100 billion for Pakistan State Oil (PSO) until the end of the upcoming month. This decision is expected to provide continued financial support to PSO and ensure stability in the energy sector.
