KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced a local holiday on June 8, 2026, in connection with the annual Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi (RA), one of Karachi’s most revered saints.
All offices of the KMC will remain closed on June 8, which falls on 22 Zul Hijjah 1447 AH, according to an official KMC holiday notification.
The notification issued by the Human Resource Management Department said the decision was made after the approval of the Karachi City Council resolution. The objective of the local holiday is to help the devotees attend the annual Urs ceremony at historic Abdullah Shah Ghazi Shrine, Karachi.
Essential Services to Remain Operational
Authorities said all departments that offer essential and emergency services will keep operating normally, while KMC offices are closed. The action has been undertaken to provide seamless provision of basic civic services during the holiday season.
All necessary departments have been notified and the decision has been approved by the competent authority and the officials at KMC confirmed the same, they said.

One of the most important historical and religious sites in Pakistan, the Shrine of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi (RA) is located in Clifton, a locality in Karachi. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the country visit the shrine each year to attend Urs and other spiritual events.
Special prayers, religious ceremonies and Qur’ān recitations take place, along with other spiritual activities, at the annual Urs. Security and administrative measures are also put in place to meet the many needs of the many visitors anticipated at the event.
