Karachi Rain Forecast: PDMA Orders Emergency Preparedness

Karachi may receive thunderstorms and light rain from September 14 to 16. Sindh authorities have placed rescue agencies on alert and ordered preparations in low-lying areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast thunderstorms and light rain in Karachi Division from September 14 to 16, with occasional gaps.

The forecast comes as a monsoon low moves westward from central India. The PMD said the system was over South Chhattisgarh and neighboring areas on September 13.

The system may also bring dust-thunderstorm rain to Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal and Tando Muhammad Khan. The PMD forecast moderate to isolated heavy falls in these districts from September 13 to 16.

PDMA Puts Sindh on Alert

The Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued an advisory for rain and thunderstorms in several parts of the province from September 13 to 16.

Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser on Rehabilitation GiyanChand Essarani directed the PDMA and Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122 to remain on high alert.

Essarani also directed deputy commissioners, district disaster management authorities and other departments to keep staff and machinery ready for emergencies.

Authorities will monitor low-lying areas, rainwater drains and other vulnerable locations. Essarani also ordered officials to keep dewatering equipment operational.

“Protection of the lives and property of citizens is the government’s top priority,” Essarani said. He advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period and take precautions.

Rain Forecast Across Sindh

The PMD also forecast light to moderate dust-thunderstorm rain in Sanghar, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Shaheed Benazirabad and Jamshoro from September 14 to 16.

The Flood Forecasting Division of the PMD also expects scattered rain and thunderstorms in eastern Sindh during the week ending Thursday, September 17.
