The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a weather forecast for Karachi, indicating the likelihood of rain, thunderstorms, and a strong dust-storm today. This weather phenomenon attributed to tropical cyclone Biparjoy, which is approaching the coast. The cyclone, categorized as a very severe cyclonic storm, expected to make landfall between Mandvi in India’s Gujarat and Karachi on Thursday evening. The authorities have alerted residents and advised precautionary measures to mitigate potential risks.
Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city set to experience partial cloudiness, high temperatures, and humid conditions throughout the day. The current wind speed in the city recorded at 25 kilometers per hour. It has the possibility of exceeding 40 kilometers per hour. The humidity level stands at 69%, and temperatures expected to reach a range of 36-38 degrees Celsius.
The approaching cyclone, named Biparjoy, has moving northwards and is currently positioned near latitude 21.9°N and longitude 66.3°E. It is situated approximately 340 kilometers south-southwest of Karachi, 355 kilometers south-southwest of Thatta, and 275 kilometers south-southwest of Keti Bandar. Given its severity, Biparjoy is likely to cause heavy rainfall in various regions. It includes Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Tharparker, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, and Karachi, from June 14 to June 17.
Sardar Sarfaraz, the Chief Meteorologist of Sindh, stated that there are chances of rainfall along Sindh’s coastal belt. He emphasized that the cyclone will make landfall on June 15 and its effects will persist until June 17. However, once the cyclone subsides, the weather in Karachi is expected to return to normal. It is expected to bring the refreshing sea breeze resuming its usual pattern.
