Karachi Weather Update: Rainfall Chances Decrease, Clear Skies Expected on Weekend

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has recently announced that the likelihood of rainfall in Karachi has significantly decreased. Previously, the Met Office had predicted potential rainstorms accompanied by strong winds in certain areas of the city. However, the weather is expected to remain cloudy due to the departure of western winds from Sindh.

Sardar Sarfraz, the Chief Meteorologist, stated that the rain system from Balochistan is moving towards Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, indicating possible heavy rains in these provinces. Currently, Karachi’s temperature stands at 29 degrees Celsius with a humidity level of 52%. Light winds are blowing from the west at a speed of 27 km/h. The Met Office’s forecast suggests clear weather in the port city from Saturday onwards, with no rainfall expected in the coming week.

Earlier, the Met Office had reported that a potent westerly wave would enter the western regions of the country on the night of April 16. This wave was expected to cover most parts of Balochistan by April 17 and extend to the upper parts by April 18. Under this weather system, several regions including Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, certain areas of Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir experienced heavy rain and thunderstorms.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), more than 65 people have lost their lives due to weather-related incidents, including lightning strikes, across Pakistan until April 17. The rainfall in April has been nearly double the historical average rate. Unfortunately, this death toll is anticipated to increase.
