Karachi and Hyderabad Brace for Severe Thunderstorms, While Arabian Sea Cyclone Looms
In a concerning weather development, meteorological experts have warned of an impending period of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms from June 13 to 16, posing a potential threat to Karachi and Hyderabad. Additionally, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, and Mirpurkhas are also expected to experience substantial rainfall during this time.
The cause for alarm stems from a powerful cyclonic storm currently raging in the Arabian Sea, maintaining its intensity as it looms approximately 690 kilometers away from Karachi’s coastline. Weather patterns indicate that on June 15, the coastal regions of Thatta in Pakistan and Gujarat in neighboring India may bear the brunt of the storm’s sea winds.
With sea conditions worsening, authorities have issued a stern directive to local fishermen, prohibiting them from venturing into the open waters until the cyclonic threat subsides. Such precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of maritime communities and mitigate potential dangers associated with the cyclone’s impact.
As the cyclone progresses, coastal areas near Thatta, including its surroundings, face the possibility of surging waves reaching heights of 8 to 12 feet. Local residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard lives and property against possible flooding or coastal erosion.
In light of the developing situation, the Sujawal district has been placed on high alert, and precautionary measures, including the imposition of section 144, have been enacted along the Gwadar coastline to maintain public safety.
