Karachiites to Get Traffic Updates Via Big Screens on Main Roads

Karachiites are all set to get traffic updates on big screens which will be placed on all the major roads of the metropolis.

The residents of Karachi are in for an upgrade in their daily commute, with the introduction of large screens on city roads that will provide real-time traffic updates, including congestion and alternative routes.

During a visit to the office of the DIG traffic, Sindh police chief Riffat Mukhtar Raja issued orders for this initiative. He directed the installation of 10 surface-mounted device (SMD) screens on major roads throughout Karachi.

These SMD screens will display vital information about traffic jams, suggest alternative routes, and alert drivers about traffic disruptions caused by construction work.

Riffat Mukhtar Raja also stressed the importance of raising awareness about traffic laws among young people in educational institutions, emphasizing the need for education on traffic rules.

The IG received a comprehensive briefing on the traffic police’s various initiatives, including the installation of automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras at multiple locations, notably 26 spots along Shahrah-e-Faisal.

Furthermore, the IG acknowledged the necessity for an expanded workforce to effectively manage traffic-related issues. The introduction of SMD screens is expected to enhance traffic flow on the city’s busiest thoroughfares.

Earlier it was reported that Karachi Traffic Police is taking steps to modernize the fine system by utilizing CCTV cameras to monitor and penalize traffic violations.

According to DIG Ahmed Nawaz, the installation of ANPR cameras is part of this effort, aligning Karachi with digital challan systems already in operation in Islamabad and Lahore.
