Kashmir Observes ‘Youm-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan’ – A Day of Association with Pakistan

Kashmiris around the world are marking “Youm-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan” today, which signifies their association with Pakistan. For the past 75 years, Kashmiris have faced ongoing struggles, with more than 500,000 lives lost in their fight for freedom from the illegal occupation by India. Despite the challenges, Kashmiris continue their relentless pursuit of independence.

In a significant historical event, the All Jammu and Kashmir Conference convened on July 19, 1947, where Kashmiri leaders unanimously accepted the proposal of accession to Pakistan. This agreement, based on religious, cultural, and geographical factors, became a crucial turning point in the rebellion and eventual liberation of Azad Kashmir.

The Kashmiri people have endured immense suffering, with thousands of women becoming widows and facing sexual violence, and numerous extrajudicial killings taking place. Additionally, the discovery of mass graves further highlights the oppressive measures carried out by Indian forces.

Occupied Kashmir is home to more than 1 million military and paramilitary personnel, making it the region with the highest concentration of forces globally. The internet shutdowns imposed in Kashmir have also gained attention, with Kashmir ranking at the top for such restrictions worldwide.

The plight of Kashmiris has garnered international concern, with organizations like the United Nations, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch raising their voices against the severe human rights violations in the region.

Despite the challenges, Kashmiris remain steadfast in their pursuit of freedom, as they observe “Youm-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan” today, reflecting their aspirations for self-determination and a peaceful future.
