KMC Announces Major Drain Cleaning Drive in Karachi Before Monsoon

KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is beginning a citywide cleaning initiative for the large drains of Karachi before the monsoon of 2026. This announcement was made during an all-municipal services meeting led by the Mayor of Karachi when final preparations for the monsoon season were discussed.
According to KMC officials, a total budget of Rs 600 million has been approved for the cleaning of major drains throughout Karachi, with tenders to be issued beginning next Monday.
Distribution of funds is district-wise – Central District Rs 68 million, West District Rs 70 million, Keamari Rs 70 million, South-I District Rs 56 million, and South-II District Rs 65 million, respectively.
Likewise, Rs 73 million for East District, Rs 70 million for Korangi District, and Rs 58 million for Malir District have also been allocated.
In addition, other places throughout the city are receiving allocations; for example, Rs 74 million in different locations throughout the city and Rs 63 million in different locations throughout the city.
The Mayor of Karachi has issued orders that drainage cleaning must occur at all times in conjunction with other projects to eliminate the risk of urban flooding during rain season.
