KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi Announces Long March on September 27

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will lead a nationwide long march to Islamabad on September 27 to demand the release and medical care of party founder Imran Khan.

Speaking to a gathering of mostly youth in Buner and Hangu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi confirmed that the September 27 date for the Islamabad long march remains firm and non-negotiable.

During his addresses, the chief minister said that the party demands the immediate implementation of judicial orders regarding Khan’s medical care at Shifa International Hospital, along with his full release from Adiala Jail.

Afridi stated that he will personally lead the protest movement, aiming to rally four million supporters to march onto the federal capital, and there will be no return except after success.

The Chief Minister urged the youth to take control of their future, stating that Imran Khan remains in prison for coming generations and that young citizens will ultimately decide the country’s direction.

What Eventually Led to the Decision

The announcement comes amid rising tensions between the provincial administration and the federal government over the detention conditions of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The Chief Minister accused the federal government and Punjab authorities of failing to implement a Supreme Court order directing Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital for medical evaluation by his personal physician.

Political Grievances

Afridi criticized what he described as a dual legal system, arguing that judicial directives against opposition workers are enforced within minutes while court orders favoring the opposition are ignored.

He also cited growing economic distress, including rising public debt, high inflation, and the migration of industrial capital as key factors mobilizing public participation.

The provincial leadership confirmed that preparations for the September 27 mobilization will continue across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with plans to expand outreach efforts to Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan alongside allied political parties.
