Lahore-Sheikhupura M2 Motorway Closed Due to Dense Smog, Safety Prioritized

In a bid to prioritize the safety of commuters, the motorway authorities have taken the precautionary measure of temporarily closing the Lahore to Sheikhupura M2 due to the adverse effects of intense smog on driver visibility.

A spokesperson for the motorway emphasized that this decision has been made with the primary goal of ensuring safe travel for the public. In light of the prevailing conditions, the motorway police are urging citizens to refrain from unnecessary travel. However, if travel is unavoidable, drivers are strongly advised to use both front and rear fog lights to navigate through the dense smog engulfing Lahore.

This closure follows the earlier shutdown of the Lahore-Multan Motorway and various sections due to the onset of thick fog on Monday morning. Specifically, the Faizpur to Jarhanwala stretch of Lahore-Multan and the Lahore motorway from Lahore to Sambrial are currently inaccessible due to the heavy fog.

To enhance safety, the spokesperson also recommends the use of fog lights for those venturing out in these weather conditions. National Highways and Motorway Police are further urging the public to maintain a greater distance between vehicles and seek advisory information from helpline 130 before embarking on any journeys.

Tragically, the reduced visibility has already resulted in a collision involving four vehicles near the Qadirabad Toll Plaza in Sahiwal. This incident claimed the lives of three individuals, including women and children, while five others sustained injuries. Promptly responding to the accident, a team from Rescue 1122 provided immediate first aid and transported the injured to a nearby hospital.
