The Lahore High Court (LHC) has signaled its intention to increase the fine for motorcyclists caught without helmets from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 5,000. During a recent hearing, Justice Shahid Kareem directed the City Traffic Police Lahore to establish new rules, with the court ready to issue an official order accordingly. The court believes that imposing this substantial fine will enhance compliance among bikers.
To raise awareness about helmet usage, the court instructed the police to conduct a ten-day campaign before implementing the new rules. The campaign aims to educate the public about the crucial role of helmets in ensuring road safety.
The Lahore Traffic Police has already taken stringent measures against helmetless motorcyclists. In just nine days, they issued an astonishing 152,888 challans and seized over 38,000 motorcycles across Lahore. Fines have been imposed on 23,767 violators. Mustansar Feroze, the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore, emphasized the importance of strict compliance with traffic laws, particularly regarding helmets.
