The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Friday finalized January 3 as the date for winter vacations of educational institutions all over the country.
The decision was made after much deliberation between the federal and provincial education ministers.
The meeting chaired by Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar exempted cold areas affected by extreme weather conditions from the decision.
According to the NCOC, provincial authorities will notify the district administrations of these areas accordingly.
The decision to push the vacations ahead was taken to maximise coronavirus vaccination among the students.
“Keeping in view this information, it will be prudent to schedule winter vacations in Pakistan in January to coincide with the potential uptick of cases. This will allow for minimal disruption of educational calendars if there is a surge in cases,” the NCOC statement read.
The meeting was attended by Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan and others.
