NDMA Issues Weather Alert for Heavy Rain Across Karachi and Multiple Regions of Pakistan

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across several parts of Pakistan, including Karachi, during the coming days.

The advisory also warned of heavy rainfall, which is expected to hit Karachi from the fourth day of Eid onwards. The rainfall could cause flood water in the urban areas and disrupt traffic and also cause outages in low-lying areas of the city.

There is also a possibility of rain with strong winds in the areas of Hyderabad, Thatta and Badin in Sindh on 30 and 31 May.

NDMA has predicted rain and thunderstorms for Punjab and Islamabad for next 3 days from 28th till 31st May. This could also be accompanied by occasional heavy winds and rainfall in Rawalpindi and its neighboring areas.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall, thunderstorms and hailstorms are forecast over 26 – 31 May and will impact the districts of Chitral, Dir and Swat. Heavy rains have been reported and may cause flash floods and landslides in hilly areas, authorities have warned.

On the other hand, a landslide obstructed the Buni Road in Chitral leading to traffic jams. Reports said women, children, elderly people were among the waiting passengers as clearance operations have not started.

NDMA has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions and to remain alert to official warnings.
